Your Privacy & Data Practices

This Privacy Policy explains how Digilayn collects, uses, and protects personal information across LaynRider and LaynDriver. We believe in minimal data collection, role-based separation, and total transparency.

⚠️ A Community Platform — Used at Your Own Risk

1. Information We Collect

🧑 LaynRider

Rider Information

  • Account Details: Your email address (used to sign in via email/password or Google Sign-In), your name, and a mobile phone number. Your phone number is stored so the driver matched to your trip can contact you — it is not verified by SMS or OTP.
  • Profile Photo: A profile picture you upload, stored securely and shown to the driver matched to your trip.
  • Trip & Booking Data: Requested pickup location, destination, fare quotation, ride status, and timestamps.
  • On-Demand Location: With your permission, LaynRider requests a location fix when needed to check service-area availability in the foreground (including when the dashboard opens or resumes), or when you choose "Use Current Location" for a pickup. It does not run background rider tracking. Pickup and destination addresses and coordinates are stored in the booking once submitted; these trip records are separate from the on-demand device lookup.
  • Feedback & Ratings: Ratings (1–5 stars) and optional written feedback submitted after completed trips.
🚗 LaynDriver

Driver Information

  • Driver Verification: Full name, phone number, vehicle details (make, model, color, registration/plate number), and driver documentation.
  • Live Location Tracking (Foreground & Background): While your driver status is toggled to "Online" or during an active trip, LaynDriver collects continuous GPS location. This enables the dispatch radar to broadcast your vehicle to nearby riders and calculate accurate ETAs.
  • Performance & Governance: Trip completion records, rider ratings, acceptance rates, and participation in fleet pricing votes.
📱 All Users

Device & Technical Data

  • Device Registry: To keep your account secure and route notifications correctly, we record the devices you sign in on and let you pick a preferred device. Signing in on a new device can sign you out elsewhere.
  • Push Notification Tokens: A push token from Firebase Cloud Messaging (or Huawei Push) so we can send you trip and dispatch updates. We never send marketing spam.
  • Diagnostic Logs: LaynFleet application logs are written to local Android logs. Separately, Google Maps and Places SDKs collect SDK crash metrics, technical request/device metadata, IP addresses, SDK identifiers and map/API interaction information to operate and improve their services. Firebase and Huawei components process the technical data needed for authentication, maps and push delivery. We do not log passwords or secrets.

2. How Your Information Is Used

We process data solely to operate and improve the LaynFleet transport ecosystem:

📍 Trip Dispatch & Routing

Connecting riders with available drivers, rendering map routes, and displaying live vehicle arrival updates.

🛡️ Safety & Mutual Trust

Displaying driver and vehicle details to the rider, and showing the rider's name and photo to the matched driver, so both parties can recognise each other at pickup. We do not verify the real identity of any user.

🏷️ Fair Pricing & Governance

Calculating distance-based trip estimates and recording driver pricing votes.

🔧 Support & Debugging

Investigating booking issues, resolving ride disputes, and fixing application crashes.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure

When a rider and driver are matched for a trip, they share the personal details needed to find and contact each other for the duration of that booking:

Riders can also browse driver profiles and reviews before booking. Booking details are exchanged to arrange and complete the ride; submitted ratings and reviews can be visible to other users in the app.

Our backend uses Google Cloud / Firebase. Google Maps and Places provide maps and place search; supported Huawei devices use Huawei Map Kit and Push Kit. These providers process service requests and technical data to deliver and maintain their services. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising. We may also disclose information when required by law or court order.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Under POPIA, we only process your personal information where we have a lawful basis to do so:

🗑️

5. Account Deletion & Data Retention

You maintain full ownership of your data. LaynFleet provides clear paths to delete your account:

Rider Self-Service Deletion

Open the account-deletion page. Rider accounts can sign in, inspect their data and confirm immediate permanent deletion of the listed rider data. Drivers use the manager-assisted request instructions on that page. Accounts used across multiple Digilayn services should contact support before deleting the shared sign-in.

In-App Deletion Request

Open More → Security Hub → Deregister inside LaynRider (or LaynDriver) and confirm the deletion request. This suspends the account pending manager processing; it does not immediately delete it. The public web page and support contact remain available if you uninstall the app.

Cannot Sign In?

You may also request account erasure by emailing digilayn@gmail.com or messaging WhatsApp +27 81 553 2209 with your registered phone number.

Driver account deletion removes profile/account data while retaining booking records unchanged. Bookings can contain account identifiers, pickup/drop-off addresses and coordinates, timestamps and free-text notes; deleting a profile does not anonymise them. Retained bookings currently have no automatic expiry. Contact support to ask about or request handling of retained personal data. Rider self-service deletion separately removes bookings created by that rider, as shown before confirmation.

6. Your Rights

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of LaynFleet after an update means you accept the revised policy.
